MOTHERS UNION - 3rd Wednesday of month 2-4pm

Mothers Union members are involved in many
areas of Church life at St George’s. Beginning
with our vicar Penny, our Licensed Lay Minister
Pam and our Lay Worship Leader Sue who lead
and support us in our Christian lives. Other
member are servers, Lay Eucharist Assistants,
Sidespersons, Lay Pastoral Assistants, Family
Ministry helpers, choir members, flower
arrangers, ‘Holy Dusters’, office volunteers,
lunch club helpers, Café Church helpers, after
church coffee makers, bakers for church fairs and social events, Community Afternoon Tea bakers and helpers.
This past August we held the Big Coffee Morning with stalls (a suggestion made by one of our members) to help make up for the loss of revenue for church. A wonderful event with so many of the community coming to enjoy time spent together with delicious coffee and cakes.
Now what else are we involved with? We support the Mothers’ Union Overseas fund and the Holiday fund for families in need of a break. We have provided teddies for the children on these holidays. When items are needed for the Women’s Refuge we collect for them. Other projects we have been involved with are knitting Twiddle mitts for dementia patients, red hats for babies in hospital who need a little extra nursing care, tops and hats for the Fish and Chip babies (babies in Africa are often sent home wrapped in newspaper, hence ‘Fish and Chip babies’). We have collected socks, scarves, gloves etc. for the homeless in our area.
Thanks to continued support for our monthly Country Markets we have also been able to make donations to some of our local charities.
Our meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month at 2pm in the small hall at St George’s. All welcome to come along.
Due to the current situation we do not have a programme for 2023. However we are still meeting regularly to discuss and learn about a wide range of topics.
